I’ve been learning more about basic power electronics lately and came across something interesting. There are a lot of AC transformer manufacturers out there, but the quality differences between them seem way bigger than I expected.

Some articles say cheaper transformers can cause problems like:

• Excessive heat
• Noise/humming vibrations
• Voltage instability under load
• Shortened lifespan of connected devices

Others claim the differences only matter for heavy equipment or audio gear. So now I’m curious what’s actually true in real-world use.

Has anyone here worked with different transformer brands or models for DIY electronics, home power backup, or audio builds? Does the quality of the transformer really affect performance, or is it only noticeable in very specific setups?

Would love to hear your experiences, especially if you’ve tested or compared different units.
